This sector is the driving force of the ivorian economy. Cote d’Ivoire is a major producer and exporter of agricultural products. Indeed, more than 50% of the Ivorian working population is involved in the agricultural sector, a good part of which in cocoa.

From 2011 to 2017, foreign direct investment in Cote d’Ivoire increased from $302 million to $675 million in this sector.

The agricultural sector is also seeing the development of rubber cultivation; with rubber production increasing from 800,000 tons in 2018 to nearly one million tons in 2021.

Over the past 20 years, cashew nut production has reached 20,000 tons, positioning Côte d’Ivoire as the world’s leading exporter.

Côte d’Ivoire intends to boost its agri-food sector. In this regard, the country signed in June 2021 a financing agreement for this sector called AGRIFOOD for an amount of 135.25 billion FCFA with the World Bank.

The majority of the country’s main agricultural products are exported unprocessed. For instance, cashew production reached 900,000 tons in 2020. However less than 10 percent will likely be domestically processed.
